Some Things Never Change!

This is a picture of Anders when he was 11 months old. He loved to smash his face on the sliding glass door and watch the kids play outside. I decided I had to see what it looked like on the other side.

Here's Anders at 27 months. He still loves to smash his face on glass. He loves to spy on Daddy through the French doors to his office.

*Our lives have been in quite the whirlwind these past 2 weeks. We decided to take the risk of potty training Anders a little early since his baby sister should be coming in just 8 short weeks. I must say, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves in to. The entire first week, I found myself in tears of frustration many times. There was one day that we actually had 9 accidents! We of course questioned his readiness many times, but Cami Ross' Facebook advice not to give up kept running through my head. The second week was absolutely fabulous! He starting going to the bathroom any time we requested (which is totally opposite of the week before). We had several days where there were not any accidents at all! We have now started our third week and yesterday was MONUMENTAL! Anders actually ran in to tell me, "Mommy, I go potty!" Even though it was only 15 minutes after we'd already gone, he still had to go! I was so proud of him. I never thought we'd get to the point where he'd actually tell me he had to go. My purpose for putting this is for anyone starting or considering to start potty training. At first, it seems like a nearly impossible task and you feel like a huge failure. Take Cami's advice and throw the rest of the advice you get out the window. Every kid is different! Don't give up! It will happen no matter how impossible it seems. Just keep up the good work! We still have a long way to go, but it's so much easier as time goes by.

What I'd like to know is, how in the world do you get them to even start. Taylor will not sit on the potty, he acts like it's going to eat him. He acts like he's ready in every other way, but when we ask him if he wants to sit on the potty, he practically runs away screaming. I really have no idea how to even get started.

That is so awesome! Really Anders is giving me hope that this whole process is possible. I don't think I am quite ready but Connor is getting there....few more weeks and I think we'll start. I don't know what I am waiting for.....I guess I am just nervous! COnnor is probably more ready than I am. Weird I know. Good luck and GO ANDERS!!!!!!!!!

Good job...I'm impressed. Boys really are hard to potty train. That's pretty good to make that much progress in 2 weeks. Let me tell you that girls are so much easier. Rylie had a lot of attitude like she does with everything but it was no time compared to Ethan. Smart move getting it done before the baby comes. 2 in diapers sucks!

You know it's because Anders is so smart and seems to have a photographic memory! Great job, Melissa! It's good you ignored all of us old fogeys who told you it was too soon. You have much more patience than I did (do). Love, Gma Firth PS: We miss you all.

I'm very excited to be in close proximity too! You are getting so close... 6 weeks? 5? Give me a call anytime and we can meet somewhere in the middle, or I can come to your house. I can't imagine trying to leave the house with two babes or more than 30 weeks pregnant! I can't wait to hear from you!

I just had to put my two cents in. When you're ready to put him to bed with no pull-up, here's my advice:
#1-limit drinks one hour before bed
#2-take him to bed to pee
#3-take him to pee again before YOU go to bed (You most likely will be taking him while he is totally zonked out, but do it anyway)
Seriously, this works. Potty training does suck, by the way. 2 down 1 more to go for me! Good luck!
